This was a house that had gone through many owners and had been sadly neglected for years. A lot of the original architectural features had been destroyed, but fortunately we were able to restore the heart pine floors, heavy paneled doors and fireplaces. The windows were replaced, walls stripped back to their original plaster, a new roof was installed along with new porches and the kitchen and baths remodeled.
The client wanted an integrating of today's technology and design materials with a conscious effort at keeping the old cottage feel. Kitchen shelves were opened up, glass doors replaced solid ones and a butcher-block counter with sheared fabric was placed in one area to give it an older country feel.
The master bath was expanded and all appliances replaced with a quaint style more appropriate to the house. Now when people walk through this home there is an automatic sense of charm and history without the blaring effects of a remodeled house. Everything flows in harmony with the original period of the home.
